Human resources and consulting firm Mercer has published the report of their Quality Living Survey for 2018 and Vienna ranks highest for the 9th year in a row.
Vienna tops thelist followed by Zurich (2), Auckland and Munich in joint 3rd place. In 5th place Vancouver completes the top five and is the highest ranking city in North America. Singapore (25) and Montevideo (77) are the highest ranking cities in Asia and Latin America respectively.
I visited Vienna for the first time 2 years ago. I was not familiar with Mercer’s ranking at the time. I simply knew her as The City of Music, The City of Dreams, cultural and artistic center, the ball season, waltz, opera, Secession, Gustav Klimt, Otto Wagner, Belvedere Palace, The Gardens of Schönbrunn… but there is so much more and beyond.
What swept me off my feet is the warmth of that city and its people. Vienna gently embraced me, made me feel welcomed, as if I have always belonged there. Needless to say, I fell in love with Vienna instantly.
